To create a family keep it alive and united is to transform the world. Love renews everything. A loving family is the most real, profound, and lasting human revolution.

Text

“To want to form a family is to resolve to be a part of God’s dream, to choose to dream with him, to want to build with him, to join him in this saga of building a world where no one will feel alone.” (The Joy of Love, n.321)

Commentary

The desire to form a family is precious, but today some see it as an unambitious life project. It gives little money and many worries. They say it costs much effort for little compensation. If you have an eye that only appreciates interests, utilities, and selfish profits, you will see the family as a bad business.

If we have the project of a loving and fruitful family in mind, let us not be intimidated by those who despise it; on the contrary, let us feel proud to aspire to something so high and so sacred.

We must also get rid of that simplistic vision that sees forming a family as just one more step in life, as an arrangement that sooner or later will happen for the sake of convenience and utility. And in the meantime, we must give ourselves to everyday pleasures before the time for fun is over.

To form a loving family and fight to keep it alive is to be part of a great and good project for mankind.
