Strong families, strong society

Do you want a humanized society? Put loving, solid, and solid families inside it.

Text

“No one can think that the weakening of the family as that natural society founded on marriage will prove beneficial to society as a whole. The contrary is true: it poses a threat to the mature growth of individuals, the cultivation of community values and the moral progress of cities and countries”. (The Joy of Love, n.52)

Commentary

There is abundant social evidence demonstrating the positive impact of stable marriages and families whose homes are loving, warm, and welcoming for all their members. Yet, there is no legislation in their favor. Why do political parties and public authorities not promote a stable and strong family? Why do some of these authorities even oppose it?

These are the million-dollar questions. The real answers – not those manipulated by political, sectarian, and economic interests – are obscure, sectarian, and ideological. They want to show us that if the family founded on a stable and strong marriage becomes a marginal thing, an archaic and discredited matter, “everything is okay” or “people are freer.” That is a big lie.

The development of societies must have as its center and destination the development of the person to be authentically human. And family, that natural and social structure that is primary, is where man is humanized, for he learns the most sublime thing about being human: to love and be loved unconditionally from birth and for all his life.
