Imagine.

What would become of a society without stable families, without the union of love between parents, conceiving children, raising and educating them, without the experience of love in the home, and bonds of unconditional love from birth to death?

What would become of you?

Answer:

Without familial love, the world would be hell, the world of the living dead, where only strength and the utilitarian view of one another would matter. What about love? In a world without families, it would have no place or meaning.

Text

“In many ways, the present-day economic situation is keeping people from participating in society. Families, in particular, suffer from problems related to work, where young people have few possibilities and job offers are very selective and insecure. Workdays are long and oftentimes made more burdensome by extended periods away from home”. (The Joy of Love, n.44)

Commentary

A society that wants to be humane, worthy of people is a society that cares for its families. They humanize the whole of society through their warm homes and their unconditional and lifelong love. This humanization is not easy. Families achieve these fruits through the effort, the sacrifice, the abnegation, the constant and faithful hope of spouses, parents, and grandparents in favor of the new generations.

It is necessary for all social agents to promote the family and make family life and its sustainability possible. Economic support, fair salaries, decent work opportunities, adequate or flexible working hours, the possibility of part-time or home-based work are a few concrete ways of promoting the family. The Government, businesses, and the third sector of society must be aware of their essential role in this regard. Institutions have the power to create the favorable conditions necessary for a family to exist and live according to its nature. As a matter of fact, the authentic, loving, stable, and strong family is the most significant revolutionary factor for a just and humanized society.
