The joy of love

English English | EspañolEspañol

It is Pope Francis´ most important text regarding family love, especially between spouses, its scenarios, strengths, and weaknesses, with a penetrating and wise diagnosis. In the current panorama, this contribution undoubtedly is one with great depth, quality, and practical interest.

One epidemic that floods our societies is the fragility of intimate relationships. For those who want to love and be loved more and better, the exploration of Pope Francis´ The Joy of Love is a fascinating challenge.

The project

We have accepted the challenge and devised an online project to learn The Joy of Love. We welcome you to share it.

For two years a multidisciplinary group of twenty professionals from different faculties and centers of the University of Piura (Piura and Lima campuses) has read Pope Francis´ document from two unprecedented, simple, and unusual perspectives.

First: we have not done it as professors and experts in each of our academic and scientific specialties. We read it as individual men and women, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, children, siblings, grandchildren, or grandparents.

Second: each one, with absolute freedom, has selected those passages that have most touched his or her heart, inspired his or her mind, or where he or she felt that his or her love and family life were alluded to, and has put those experiences, ideas, and confidences in writing. We have been guided solely by the purpose of promoting the reading of The Joy of Love and sharing its extraordinary fruits.

Given the strength of some fragments and the expressions of Pope Francis himself, it is explicable, although surprising, that many authors have been moved by the same text, even though the experiences, ideas, and confidences provoked have differed.

Another team has converted all these “units”, more than 300, into an online platform.

The structure of each unit and the menu of the online platform

Each experience and confidence is a “unit”, under the signature and responsibility of its author. Its structure has three parts: the main idea, the selected fragment of the Pope, and the personal commentary.

The KEY IDEA is a brief text that summarizes the main inspiration received.

The FRAGMENT of The Joy of Love selects and quotes the passage from the document of Pope Francis, whose reading has impressed and moved each author in this project. If you are interested in the rest of the epigraph, chapter, or the whole document, you can “click” on the fragment itself.

The COMMENTARY contains the account of the experience or the personal and familial confidence that was stirred within each author by the fragment of The Joy of Love.

The platform menu foresees entries to the contents by each of the chapters of The Joy of Love; by each author of the units; or by themes or voices. Between each unit and its three ways of access, there are the corresponding links, so that you can navigate from within the contents of the menu.

The contact section of the menu provides a channel through which you can interact with us and send your comments.
