Parents are their children´s first teachers. They have listened to us from the womb.

Text

“Parents always influence the moral development of their children, for better or for worse.” (The Joy of Love, n.259)

Commentary

What role can there be in society with more significant impact and responsibility than parents? We are an open book from which our children learn from a very young age.

They see how we love, how we work, how we correct, how we forgive, how we treat others. We shape our children; whether we like it or not, we shape their way of being, their criteria for action, and their own moral quality.

It is a job without rest, open 24 hours a day because it does not take a break during the nighttime; even during a holiday or vacation period, we are still setting the example for our children. Being aware of this and recognizing that we can be wrong many times, we must make an effort to be coherent and avoid bad examples through our actions.
