“None of this, however, is possible without praying to the Holy Spirit for an outpouring of his grace, his supernatural strength and his spiritual fire, to confirm, direct and transform our love in every new situation.” (The Joy of Love, n.164)
Commentary
The interior life of each spouse is of the utmost importance, as much as the spiritual climate that is shared in the home. Both dimensions are communicating vessels. God has made a covenant with the spouses on their wedding day. Take this covenant seriously. Do not betray it. He has committed himself to the spouses to give them a series of graces aimed at perfecting their love and sanctifying each other by fulfilling the duties derived from this new way of life. God does not fail to keep his word.
However, spouses should not put obstacles in each other´s life of grace, but instead, they should preserve it and make it grow day after day. Without the Spirit of God in your soul, without prayer, without the sacraments of penance and communion, you will have little strength to found, preserve, grow and, above all, reconcile wounds in your conjugal and family life. As in Cana of Galilee, it may happen that the wine will soon run out. Allow each of your loving relationships to be transformed by the Spirit of Jesus Christ into the excellent wine, the one that always remains without being depleted. He is your best ally, the one who will never let you down.
