“The Joy of Love…” (First words that title the Apostolic Exhortation on love by Pope Francis n.1)
Commentary
With a very precise intention, Pope Francis has chosen the title of the exhortation: “The Joy of Love.” It allows him to define the most radical feeling of a person´s spirit. Far from the ephemeral and temporary, it identifies the root of the meaning of living, interior peace and freedom, of perseverance and fidelity to the loving gift when faced with change, routine, wears, contradictions, pain, and discouragement.
We were created through love for love by God. We were created this way to be an image of the Love with which the Trinity lives with itself. This is the ultimate reason for the joy of love: that each of us has been created and called to the Life of Love. The life that never dies, that always remains. The life that can endlessly grow because it is God´s Life sealed into our human nature. This way of being and living together, through and for love, has been offered to our freedom. Because love is not imposed by force and violence, nor is it bought by money. Loving is achieved from freedom and gratuitousness in the gift of oneself to the loved ones.
Whoever manages to make themselves, a gift to their loved ones, as well as, truly embrace them… receives within the deepest part of their intimacy a fountain of “living water”. Emerging from within, we are instilled with radical joy, the joy of love. It has the power to overcome difficulties, illuminate darkness and suffering, as well as provide, under any adverse circumstance, powerful reasons to live.
