Family spirituality

A true family is a loving and warm shelter, companionship, and trust between its members. Who are the first to do so? The spouses.

Text

“The family “has always been the nearest ‘hospital’.” So let us care for one another, guide and encourage one another, and experience this as a part of our family spirituality… The two are thus mutual reflections of that divine love which comforts with a word, a look, a helping hand, a caress, an embrace. For this reason “to want to form a family… is to join him in this saga of building a world where no one will feel alone.” (The Joy of Love, n.321)

Commentary

According to Pope Francis, a point of daily examination of family spirituality could be: Have I taken care of my family today? Have I cured ailments? Have I alleviated suffering? Have I prevented anyone from feeling alone? Is there anyone who is feeling neglected because of me? Have my attitudes and behaviors been manifestations of good love: tenderness, affability, loving embrace, understanding gaze, attentive listening, smiles…? Reflect upon this: what would your family be like if each one of you took this daily test and improved what was necessary?
