Youth is a precious stage of life: it is like the splendor of the rising sun. Without a past that weighs us down too much, overflowing with energy and illusions, we are the future open to novelty. Youth is when we conceive the great ideals for our life. It is the age of opening up to the truth and savoring its light. It is the age when we intimately reject dishonesty, being deceived and manipulated and all forms of hypocrisy.
Are you young and have no ideals? Are you young and empty? Examine yourselves within and sharpen your eye, lest you might be already dead in life!
Are you young? Be yourself; your origin and destination are already unique. Let your inner world grow, dream big. Do not be a zombie. Do not get bored in the herd. You are just in time to lay the foundations of your life.
Text
“We need to find the right language, arguments and forms of witness that can help us reach the hearts of young people, appealing to their capacity for generosity, commitment, love and even heroism, and in this way inviting them to take up the challenge of marriage with enthusiasm and courage.” (The Joy of Love, n.40)
Commentary
Renew yourself or die. You either know how to communicate the truth anew or end up corned in a warehouse where junk is accumulated. Here and now, this is the unavoidable task of parents and those of us who dedicate ourselves to educational work. We must find new teaching formulas that, with affection and respect, intelligence and beauty, shine in the minds and touch the hearts of young people.
If our teachings regarding marriage and family lack attractiveness and truth’s power, something is wrong with us, parents and educators. We currently face a time for profound renewal and livelier and current conversations.
