Put Mary, the Mother of God, in the center of your family. You will enjoy her light, strength, and tender presence.

Text

The treasury of Mary’s heart also contains the experiences of every family, which she cherishes. For this reason, she can help us understand the meaning of these experiences and to hear the message God wishes to communicate through the life of our families. (The joy of love, n. 30)

Commentary

Mary is the Daughter, the Wife, the Mother. Mary is the woman, every woman, that we find in a family. That is her in the Annunciation, in the Home of Nazareth, at the wedding feast of Cana where she noticed that the wine – which represents human love – is soon to run out and has the power to convince Jesus into transforming water – ordinary love – into wine or excellent love. She is there at the Cross, which ultimately means, she is present during all of our calvaries and crosses.

Just like the most loved disciple took Mary into his home, each one of us should embrace her in our household. To be a family that loves the presence of Mary is to, in a way, “rely on her,” like in the feast of Cana, to improve our familial love. She keeps these relationships alive. She teaches how to pray. She helps loved ones reconcile. She teaches generosity, patience, joy, affability, the graces of good love. She brings forth Jesus and takes it upon her herself to ask him for the miracles we might need in our life.
