There is nothing new under the sun in a fair of sexual experiments and alternatives. Homosexuality, promiscuity, unions of pure economic convenience, the uses and abuses in a couple, infidelities, mistreatment and submission, sexual slavery, or sex without love…are as old or even older than combs or shoes.
What is newer is the ideological dictatorship. The enormous hypocrisy and the scandalous contradiction of, on the one hand, denigrating faithful, procreative, and lifelong marriage between man and woman as an archaic museum piece; but on the other hand, demanding the exact title of marriage for homosexual cohabitation, for couples who, on principle, do not want to have children, agree to be together for a specific amount of time, or exclude by mutual agreement the fidelity and exclusivity of one with the other.
Text
“Legislation facilitates a growing variety of alternatives to marriage, with the result that marriage, with its characteristics of exclusivity, indissolubility and openness to life, comes to appear as an old-fashioned and outdated option.” (The Joy of Love, n.53)
Commentary
We are witnessing a legal disintegration of marriage in our countries. In fact, a complete loss of its identity. It is an ideological dictatorship and an imposture on reality to attempt to call a bunch of sexual relationships that are contradictory among themselves “marriage,” some of which cannot conceive children of their own.
It is unreasonable to maintain a neutral position. The union of life and love between a man and woman, authentic marriage, must be defended not only by academia but also by civil society and families. We are all concerned with communicating the truth and beauty of the marital bond: one man with one woman exclusively joined forever and open to life. In the authentic love between a man and woman lies the original and permanent human reality, which is open to the future and enriches us more when we live it.
The historical experience of other alternatives – which are presented to us as modern, while being older than grinding wheat – has been their social and personal failure. They do not have the capabilities to fulfill, in the same manner, or to the same extent, the strategic social functions that a family founded upon matrimony performs.
Any society that lacks family-generating marriages and relies on sexual alternatives, especially homosexual ones, would disappear within a few generations. Perhaps as early as the second generation. And if these alternatives manage to enjoy a social and legal place without causing a generational collapse, is because there are stable marriages and families. Marriages who have their own children raise and educate them later present them as a new generation of citizens and support and guarantee that society has a future instead of decadence and extinction. These truths, perhaps, sting the gender and anti-family ideologies, but they are facts. Facts that are hidden and their diffusion repressed.
