Love explains it all

Love explains it all

There is no boss or superior in a marriage, no employee or subordinate or enslaved person.

Text

“Some think that they are important because they are more knowledgeable than others; they want to lord it over them (…)The inner logic of Christian love is not about importance and power; rather, “whoever would be first among you must be your slave” (Mt 20:27). In family life, the logic of domination and competition about who is the most intelligent or powerful destroys love.” (The Joy of Love, n.97)

Commentary

Even if at work one is the efficient management, the triumphant president, among other titles in the company one works, these positions do not belong to the family sphere. At home, both spouses have the right to express their opinions, offer proposals, be correct, be wrong, affirm, even recant. They are a team of equals, not a boss and a subordinate, as if one is always right and the other wrong. Both can teach, and both have to learn. There is no need to prove or demonstrate anything to anyone at home. Or, better said, the only thing necessary to demonstrate is love; other demonstrations are superfluous.
