Family, be yourself.

Text

“…The family is the image of God, who is a communion of persons…In the human family, gathered by Christ, ‘the image and likeness’ of the Most Holy Trinity (cf. Gen 1:26) has been restored, the mystery from which all true love flows. (The Joy of Love, n.71)

Commentary

We must work on the family regaining its true nature and how it “ought to be.” The family is a true seed, undoubtedly, but it must be fertilized and cared for in order for it to flourish in all its potential. Without care, the seed can wither and dry up. The family seen as the image of the Triune God is something very significant. That is the seal, the image and likeness of God, the ample seed that each family, from its matrimonial nucleus, contains within.

Understanding this, as we strive to live it every day, and to make people discover the greatness of being able to be, at the same time the one who loves and gives himself, the beloved who embraces, and the union that correspondence generates in us, the image and likeness of Trinitarian love of the Father for the Son in the Holy Spirit. It is a fascinating and definitive revelation. It floods the life of each family with light and meaning put in each one of its loving bonds. Sometimes we do not acknowledge and value the treasure we have in our hands as a married couple. And, if you do not know this treasure, how will we live it?
